Description
An antique Chinese hand painted porcelain figurine representing the god of wisdom and longevity Old Immortal of the South Pole, the Taoist deification of Canopus, the brightest star of the constellation Carina. He is portrayed with a long white beard and a protruding forehead. His right hand holds a peach or flower and his left hand a walking staff with a gilded calabash gourd, which is said to contain the elixir of life. He is depicted next to a crane.
