A rare antiquarian library book, Aphorisms on Man. Translated From the Original Manuscript of the Rev. John Caspar Lavater, Citizen of Zuric by Johann Caspar Lavater, 1741 to 1801. Fourth edition. Navy hardcover with holes and ropes. Printed at Boston, by I. Thomas and E. T. Andrews, 1790. Dedicated by Lavater to Henry Fuseli, the translator. Engraver: Cornelius Tiebout, c. 1773 to 1832. Language: English. Ex libris of Columbia University in the City of New York Library with a stamp inside. An original stamp of Phithologian Society 1806. Signed and numbered with a stamp 60591 inside. Johann Caspar Lavater was a Swiss writer, theologian and poet who wrote in German, laid the foundations of criminal anthropology.
