Copyrighted by George Barrie, 1893. Matted. Elizabeth Jane Gardner Bouguereau, 1837 to 1922, was an American academic and salon painter. She studied in Paris under the figurative painter Hugues Merle, 1823 to 1881, the well-known salon painter Jules Joseph Lefebvre, 1836 to 1911, and finally under William-Adolphe Bouguereau, 1825 to 1905. George Barrie, from 1893 to 1895 was the Philadelphia printer and publisher, and worked upon a large and lavish series of original etchings and chromolithographs detailing exhibits of the fine art from participating countries at the Worlds Columbian Exposition.
