Description

An antique Japanese Satsuma pottery teapot. Late Meiji era, before 1912. Squat round tripod piece with a movable bamboo wood handle. The item is decorated with a depiction of Buddhist monks, or Arhat, with a white dragon. Gilt accents. Fine detail work. Shimazu family crest ornament on the lid. Shimazu Gyokuzan hallmark on the bottom. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated.
