An oil painting on canvas by Maqbool Fida Husain. This painting, in a style close to Cubism, shows a woman and child standing next to a horse. Behind her and the horses back is a stylized bright red fire on a gray background. The painting is signed at the top of the canvas. Maqbool Fida Husain, known as M. F. Husain, 1915 to 2011, was one of Indias most eminent artists. Born in Pandharpur, his early years were spent in Indore. Using freehand drawing and vibrant color, he depicted Indian subject matter in the style of contemporary European art movements, particularly Cubism.
