Description
An antique bronze seated Buddha from Southeast Asia, presumably Thailand, 19th century, Rattanakosin period. Buddha sits in a lotus position, his hands in bhumisparsa mudra. This gesture serves as a reminder of Buddha Shakyamunis victory over the temptations of Mara. The Buddhas clothing and the raised platform on which he sits are richly decorated with ornaments characteristic of Southeast Asia.
