An antique Japanese Satsuma pottery lidded urn or censer. Late Meiji era, before 1912. Bell shape, pierced lid with figurative finial. Elaborate ornamental gilding. Samurai imagery in nautical scenery, sculpted white dragon motif. Fine detail work. Shimazu family crest is included in the base decor. Dai Nippon hallmark on the bottom. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated. Shimazu clan was the main producer of Satsuma ware. Collectible Oriental Asian Decor, Vanity Items.
