An early to mid-20th century painting on paper. Watercolor and ink with gilding. Arabic calligraphy of quotes from the Quranic surahs. The calligraphy is garnished with polychrome floral ornaments. This item is a fine example of the Thuluth script that has been used for decoration since the Middle Ages. Wooden frame.
