Description

A rare fine old Central African Gabon torque fang akure or necklace worn by a Fang woman for life, and was only removed after her death. The Torque was put on by a village blacksmith at a certain age and she would wear it always as a sign of class and prestige. The bronze has a buttery, creamy smooth interior patina suggesting a long use over a lifetime. The ware is decorated with a ribbed design.
