An antique Japanese Ichimatsu traditional character doll. The face of the doll is white and has large dark eyes and red lips. The body part of the Ichimatsu doll is made from a piece of timber or clay. The doll with gofun head, arms, legs, and feet, a composition body, and straight black hair. The doll is dressed in an original orange, yellow and pink silk kimono featuring floral and foliage motifs. Presented on a rectangular shaped stand. Circa: early 20th century. The original Ichimatsu dolls were named after an 18th century kabuki actor and must have represented an adult man, but since the late 19th century the term has applied to child dolls, usually made to hold in the arms, dress, and pose.
