Attributed to Carlos Alonso, Argentine, born 1929, a watercolor painting on paper depicting a portrait of Martin Fierro, a gaucho who has been drafted to serve at a border fort, defending the Argentine inner frontier against the native people. Signed lower right. Carlos Alonso is a contemporary painter, draftsman and printmaker. Though he was a Social realist in his early career, he is best known as a New realist.
