Oil on canvas painting. After the artwork titled The Earl of Strafford Going to Execution by Paul Delaroche, 1797 to 1856, a French academic artist who is famous for his melodramatic depictions that often portrayed subjects from English and French history. This piece represents Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford, who was a minister of Charles I of England. After a contest between the King and Parliament, John Pym launched Straffords impeachment and had him locked in the Tower in 1640. Strafford was beheaded at Tower Hill on 12 May 1641.
