A Japanese covered enamel over copper kogo or box for incense. The cover of the box is enameled with a polychrome design depicting butterflies in blossoming flowers made in the Cloisonne technique. The body of the ware is adorned with polychrome floral, foliage and foliate scroll motifs made in the same technique. The borders feature a swirl pattern made in the same technique. A kogo is used for holding incense and historically most often at the tea ceremony, the temple, or for the small worship area in the home.
