41 reviews

Oil on masonite painting. In the manner of Gertrude Abercrombie, 1909 to 1977, an American painter based in Chicago famous for her bohemian lifestyle. The artwork represents a Surrealist night scene with an owl and grape bowl. Signed and dated 1954 in the lower right. Framed. Doyle Auctions label on the backside. The owl was one of Abercrombies favorite animals. Representing natures overseer of land and sky, the owl patiently takes in everything, comprehending a world beyond our grasp.
